"Let's Get Metaphysical or 'LGM' began as a book study group several years ago. The aim was to learn more about leading edge ideas regarding basic philosophical questions humankind has asked since we began to self-reflect.

Questions such as: 

• Who are we? 
• Where did we come from? 
• Why are we here? 
• What is the nature of the universe? 
• Of God? 
• Of the relationship between the two? 

The questions abound. The mystical lies in the answers.

Throughout history the various religions, as well as many philosophers and theologians, have offered us “models of the universe” reflective of their consciousness at that point in time to answer these questions.  One British statistician coined an interesting phrase: “all models are wrong, some models are useful”.

From the religion/philosophy point of view: no one model contains all the truth. At best, they contain some truth, and it is up to each of us to formulate our own philosophy as we journey through life. The goal of LGM is to offer an opportunity to see these questions from an entirely new angle.

A couple of years ago I came across “TED” talks and thought this would be a great way to explore various ideas during the course of an evening, rather than just studying one idea from one book. This format has worked out well. It has made for some fascinating conversations. That format continues today. 

In addition to TED talks, I have come across many other videos that have exposed us to many new ways to see and think about not only these topics, but others we had not even considered. 

Consequently, we have watched videos and had lively discussions about:

• Cosmology
• The Nature of Consciousness
• Neuro-science
• The Power of Music
• Mindfulness
• The Many World Religions
• Artificial Intelligence
• and so many other fascinating topics.

For those who come to this with an open mind you will see that, as one British astronomer put it: “the universe is not stranger than you imagine, it’s stranger than you CAN imagine”.
